Garmin forerunner 235 and PM5

Post by Watoskyv » May 3rd, 2021, 10:35 am

I'm trying to use my Garmin forerunner 235 as a HRM to use with my rower, but I can't get it to work.
I'm using the ERGData app on my phone, I can connect the app with my watch, but my heart rate doesn't show up on the app.
I've also tried to use the ergIQ on my watch but it doesn't show my heart rate either.

Am I doing something wrong or is it just not possible?
If it is, does anyone has a step by step guide to connect them?

I could never get my 235 to connect to the PM5. Ended up buying a chest HR strap - which also seems a lot more accurate on the rower than my wrist-based readings.

I don't know if it's just my watch or not, but the wrist-based HRM seems to pick up some sort of interference and electrical impulse generated by the flywheel, and ends up recording my HR exactly 3x what my stroke rate is. I can even test it by upping the rate for a30 seconds, and I know exactly the figure my watch will be showing. The chest strap connected directly to the PM doesn't have this problem

I use a Garmin Dual-HRM, too. I actually take my Forerunner 245 off when I use my rower so that it doesn't pick up any erroneous step data. I noticed that it was logging steps when I was rowing.
