ergdata fail not saving to logbook

Post by cardiffpete » January 29th, 2023, 7:55 pm

I have seen similar threads to this about issues with ergdata but not seen one with the exact same symptoms I have been experiencing.

I have been using the ergdata pretty successfully for about 3 years. Recently I have noticed that it sometimes 'keeps the workout' going after I've pressed the menu button - and then I cannot seem to get ergdata to stop the workout. The workout is thus saved ok to the pm5 but does not appear on my ergdata logbook. So, yes I can enter the rows to the concept2 site manually - so not a disaster :D - but this behavior has happened for my 2 most recent rows now - and it makes ergdata a bit pointless if I'm going to have to enter rows manually. I am using ergdata app version 2.0.27. Any assistance appreciated, thanks, Pete

By “menu” button I assume you mean the menu button on the PM5. If you do, then I would suggest keeping hands off the PM5 at the end of your row and using the save options in the top left corner of the ErgData screen. Maybe that helps.

If you do a set piece, I think ErgData saves reliably when it is complete. But I don't do set pieces that often, so maybe I just haven't seen it fail yet.

If you do "just row" the only reliable way I've found is, on the phone, hit the top-left menu button, and "Save and Show log" -- That works almost always. The only time I've had it fail is when for some reason it drops the bluetooth mid-workout. That happens to me about 1 in 100 times. On those occasions I haul out my printer cable and the Concept 2 Utility to grab the data from the PM5.

Regardless of the cause of failure of ErgData, I've never been unable to fetch the workout with C2 Utility.

I do it exactly the same way for all sessions, not only just row. Works always, even after a failed WLAN connection and retry.

This happened once when I used my Bluetooth headphones at the same time. Probably BT connections distorted each other.
I could reconnect ergdata during the row and save that workout the same way as mentioned above.

I’m also having issues with the app not saving to the logbook. There has been a new update to the app, and it honestly has made everything worse. Both my partner and I have experienced the same issue. When you get connected originally, the app will save the first workout you do. Whether or not you exit the workout via the pm5 menu button or exit button on the app, the logbook gets disconnected and will not save any following workouts. We have yet to try connecting every time we begin a new chunk of our workout.
For example, warm up (exit, reconnect), workout (exit, reconnect), cooldown (exit, reconnect), etc.
Today my partner tried to exit on the app from his first workout and the app crashed. In both of our experiences, Bluetooth has nothing to do with it. It also crashes reliably.

1. Update your PM5 firmware to the latest available version (not a beta).
2. Update your phone / iPad to the latest Ergdata app.
3. Get logs of everything and report your error to info@concept2.com

Similar issue here. I like "undefined rest" for my intervals so I can let my heart rate determine when I start the next interval, but ErgData drops out when I hit the PM5 monitor button to start the next interval. The PM5 keeps going, and if I restart ErgData, it picks up what the PM5 is doing, but doesn't record it. I haven't tried hitting the "continue" button on the app to start the next interval, I'll try that on the next workout. I also updated both the app and the PM5 a few days ago. Maybe the next app update will cure it (?) I'll continue to play around with different combinations, to see if it is operator error or the app.

I too just had my first experience with this kind of behavior although I had a sneaking suspicion it had something to do with the fact that I use Ergdata in conjunction with Rowpro 5.8 but since no one else is mentioning the Rowpro connection, I'm wondering what is really going on.

I did a C2 Workout of the day before breakfast, thinking I wouldn't have time for much more than that today inasmuch as temperature is in the 60's and I was going to try to play some golf. I didn't fire up Rowpro for that workout. Ergdata worked fine and the workout was uploaded without a hitch. Then I found out I couldn't get a tee time I wanted so instead I went to do another workout, this time 7500 meters. I connected to Rowpro and Ergdata, but at the end of the row all I saw was an endlessly spinning doughnut on Ergdata and nothing got uploaded to the C2 logbook. (Especially frustrating since it was a personal best time.) The fact that I did a workout, stopped, then returned to do another 20 minutes later, similar to what the OP is describing, now has me wondering. I've done multiple workouts before with just Ergdata without any problems but what I've described has me stumped. The only other thing that was strange about this workout in particular is that the graph that shows the force curve of each stroke was not displaying anything. All the other numbers were there and Rowpro displayed the row properly along with a pace boat. Strange, huh?

What's also weird is when I've used Ergdata and Rowpro together in the past, the workout would get uploaded twice and I would end up having to manually delete one. This time, neither got uploaded.
