connecting LiveRowing to iPhone

I downloaded LiveRowing and it looks neat. I haven't been able to use it because there's no easy way to connect my phone to my PM3. Concept2's cable is outdated, and with the required adapter the cost approaches $90 after taxes and shipping. The 30-pin to Lightning adapter is huge and I would have to take my phone out of its case everyday.

I preordered the LiveRowing cable, but it seems it's been in pre-order since January. Has anyone else pre-ordered the cable, and heard any rumors on release dates? I'm wondering if I should just ask for a refund and bite the bullet for a PM5 upgrade kit.
