Still to many problems so finally splashed out and bought a Hp Z240 with a i7-6700 CPU with 8Gb of RAM and a SSD and a GeForce GTX750Ti GPU.
It would appear you need endless grunt to get a really stable setup with the PM5 and RowPro V5.3 and the days of being able to get away with a 10 year old PC are over.

Carl, thanks for these updates. They remind me to stay content with my PM3 running my ancient version of Rowpro on an 8 year old laptop.

If you have a dedicated laptop to it and stop getting any Windows updates so you can essentially "Freeze" your set-up in time it's all good, otherwise you can end up getting an update that stuffs you. Its pretty much impossible to "Freeze" Windows 10 now for any great length of time.mitchel674 wrote: ↑March 24th, 2019, 10:55 amCarl, thanks for these updates. Things are moving along at a faster and faster rate, what used to last 10 years now only lasts 5 years. I can barely keep the current system up to date with all four, PM5 Firmware, Windows 10 updates, GPU updates and RowPro updates !
Pity really as the Hp hardware is so reliable you end up chucking what is a perfectly good PC in the bin or using it to form a smart TV when you own an old TV but after that it filters out to the rubbish.
Still the new set-up is nice, really fast boot for when your running late to join an online row and the results now Synchronize to the Concept 2 LogBook without having to do anything.

Thanks to you both. I have an old laptop that I use for rowpro and nothing else (anymore). It's hooked to my erg and the tv. Every now and then I think about putting rowpro on my newer computer, but you just gave me a reminder of why I don't.

Similar here. I have an old Lenovo laptop, i3 processor and no dedicated graphics, Windows 8.1 with updates switched off, running RowPro 4.3. It's all a bit clunky but it works. If the laptop were to die I'd probably try to buy a cheap refurbed or 2nd-hand one of similar vintage to replicate this setup. I'm not reassured by what I hear of version 5.

V5 is great its just you need what I would call a "Rocket Ship" of a computer to run it flawlessly.
Have thrown another 8Gb of RAM in mine for the fun of it and will also update the wireless PCI-Express card because mine is way down on signal level compared to two laptops tried in the same area and the drivers stopped for it in 2017.its currently working okay but just want to remove any weak links in the set-up.
Going to put in a TP-Link Archer TE4 Dual band card in it so the 5GHz band is also an option.
Still got V4.3 on a really old 2006 Hp Centrino Duo designed to run Windows XP laptop as a backup, frame rates are way down at 25fps but a connection for online rowing is better than no connection.
All I can say is some people will get away with their old set-up, its just luck of the draw and thats fine, right up until the point it suddenly stops working and at that point you need a new computer.
