best app/subscription service for rowing programmes

Post by randywatson » April 3rd, 2019, 10:36 am

hi,

ive been going to the gym for a while and always used the rowing machine.

With having 2 children under 2 ive decided to buy an indoor rower to do some sessions at home. Seeing as im pretty much under house arrest with the young children :D

I love the idea of set workouts, intervals all being programmed, so im looking to buy an app or software which will do all this for me.

I dont want to have to think up programmes or simply hop on the rower and bang out it out for 5000 metres.

What is the best app/software that you guys could recommend?

Any help would be great.

Hi

It sounds like RowPro will give you what you're looking for - there are built-in training plans, as well as online sessions if that interests you. You can download a trial version from Digital Rowing.

I would have also recommended looking at the Interactive Training Plans which take into account a few variables in determining a customised plan for you. The page doesn't seem to be available at the moment though, but this might be a temporary issue.

You could also check out the Beginner's Pete Plan. You'll have to input the sessions into the monitor, but this doesn't take too long. There are also some Pete Plan threads on the forum if you want to ask questions.

Lastly it can help to join a team and do the monthly Cross Team Challenge which throws up interesting variety. I'm biased in plugging the welcoming and friendly Forum Flyers here :) , but there are some others worth checking out.

Cheers
Dave

LiveRowing has built-in workouts or you can create your own. During workouts it can prompt you to go at the programmed speed/rate. The iOS version has been out a while and Android is public beta.

Thanks for the replies lads.

Regarding live rowing,

Do you have to post extra for the workouts? I see on one section the conor mcgregor programme, but who the hell wants to pay extra money for a limited number of workouts

I think that Eric Murray’s YouTube channel is pretty remarkable. He’s posting new workouts and doing them on video, while providing coaching tips. How many opportunities does one get to get advice from an Olympic gold medalist?

I’ve just trialed LiveRowing. It’s really good.

Boatcoach (not free) allows you to program the erg beforehand with the session then you can select the session again and again, plus you get graphs and data. ErgData (free) works on all three ergs. As for training programs Pete Plan, Wolverine Plan, Interactive, Rowpro, the marathon plan etc... stick to any of them and you'll improve your times and fitness.
