hey all!
im on my women's varsity team at school, and we are beginning of our winter training for the 2008 spring season. it looks like this year we will be having a 1st varsity 8, a 2nd 8 and and 3rd 8. i really want to make it on to first boat. im willing to push myself, and put in extra effort for this.
i was wondering if anyone has any advice on what to do to make it onto the 1st varisty 8.

If you're the right shape and size, and have good athletic characteristics, you're in already. If not, you have to work on technique, rhythm and such (you have to anyway) so that you can get a seat in the bows or stern, maybe stroke. Make sure you have a good coach, listen hard and act according. Some single sculling and small boats in general might help.
Rowing is fun anyway, whichever boat or seat you're in, and there are sports for all shapes and sizes, so don't worry too much. Least of all about getting fit, that'll happen anyway.

what i did
Aside from the rowing factor make yourself liked amoungst the coaches maffins etc never go amiss. Also make sure a nice injury free person that always helps.
My coach appreciates how self motivated I am which got me into the top boat because I was always seen out running down erging, doing core and helping with novies away from standard training sessions.
hope this helps
