Maarten,

Thanks for the kind words and offer for information. I haven't been to Amsterdam for over 20 years...and I also didn't know the best thing about Amsterdam!

I'm glad you posed the question about how to race...I'm interested to see the advice, as well. There's always more to learn!

Your team race should be fun to watch.

See you soon.

Joan

Maarten .. you have well over a hour recovery and you should be fine . When I raced at Newark .. I did my 2k then an hour after a 500metres and the race directly after that was the relay where I had five mins rest ... and I did it no problem ...wasw very tired later though ... just make sure you have plenty of water and eat something ...

I agree that you have plenty of time to recover between heats. Use the time wisely though.

First, do an easy cool down row. I would row 2 to 3K easy around 2:15.

Drink plenty of sports drink to rehydrate and replace your energy. Maybe eat some high energy food that will not bother your stomach. Do it right after your first race so it has time to get into your system and out of your stomach before the second heat.

Stay warm. Put on sweat pants/shirt so your muscles don't tighten up between heats.

Try to relax between heats. Find a quiet place and close your eyes for a few seconds to release tension.

A half hour before the second heat, do a warm up.

Good luck,

Paul Flack

I'll be there and racing. I think I'm in the MSA race at 1.05pm, the men's open anyway. Unfortunately I won't be in pb form as training has been patchy for a little while now due to life taking over. Strangely though I find that a lot of racing a 2k is in the mind and knowing what you have done before. Having done a 6:11 a couple of times before 6:20 now sounds pretty slow in my mind, and even though I don't think I'm in physical shape to do any faster than 6:20 really, I expect to row around a 6:16.

Janice and I are travelling to Amsterdam tomorrow, and doing a bike tour around the city on Friday. Looking forward to racing and seeing everyone else Saturday.

Pete
