Wow! 111k meters in under 7 hours! That would be a great accomplishment, I would need a pillow top seat cushion :D I hope he gets it done. I've been rowing for over 2 years and haven't given a fm a go. I'm planning on attempting one this season, my hats off to all of you who can row these kinds of distances.

Ugh, just getting old! Last season I was doing 80K meters per week and I was plagued with injuries. So now I am listening to my body. Plus I have slowed down a bit. I want to be in this for the long run!

Jim,
I agree with you 100%!
I have been rowing at double my usual annual distance to date. And weight-lifting has been added to my daily routine. Recently, my muscles have been letting me know that it is time to back off a bit. Recovery time has to be taken into account in any workout program- and as one ages, that recovery time between workouts is not going to decrease.
My lifting routine is utilizing some of the same muscle groups as the erg. Even though the intent is to increase speed through increased power, without sufficient rest, there is greater risk of injury, also more fatigue- and slower progress in spite of the very hard work.
To make a long story short, I need more rest than I have been taking.
"Do no harm" is a good " mantra" for any exercise program.

All bits present and accounted for, with the exception of my sciatic nerve - whose bits were in the bit bucket. I started feeling it during this row and decided to stop before it became a problem.

I'm back to normal with a 10k row this morning, so things are looking good for the Fall Team Challenge. This is the first month since February that I was able to top 100k for the month.

Good to hear it wasn't something lasting. Sounds like we're all fighting the effects of entropy to various degrees.... :D

Haven't seem any commentary on Paul Buchanan's attempt to break a bunch of Irish indoor rowing records, age 40-49, in a 24hr period on Aug 23..

From I can find out, he did it, breaking the previous records by very thin amounts. Paul came up with a pace for each event that put him just under the record and left him enough energy to move forward.

New Irish RecordTimes:
500m : 1:24.7

5K: 17:17.3
6K: 20:59.2, no previous record found

30min: 8464
60min: 16933
HM: 1:24:23.3
FM: 2:44:43.7
2K: not rowed.

BTW. these are not world records.

Got back to Denver yesterday from the Valor Games in Chicago where I took the Bronze Medal in rowing. Unfortunately I came up short in week 3 of the Dog Days of Summer challenge. Looking forward to the team challenge. Which brings me a question are my meters being counted in the team's all round meter count?

Maybe I am starting to hit my stride for the season. After a slow start my meters are starting to climb and today i had two rows one a solid interval warm up before weight training & for the second row, I renewed my focus on controlling my stroke rate. I was a bit drained from lifting, but I ranged from 24-26-28-30/1 SPM. Stroke rate is the biggest flaw for me to work on. I am actually perfectly comfortable rowing @32-35spm but I know my sustained power output suffers at 35SPM. I am going to master this eventually, because I love it. Fairly soon I am going to try to establish my best 1K time. Erin Go Bragh! Paul and his quest was spectacular. Glad someone mentioned the Fall Team Challenge. I am good for 200K+. Go Timbuktoo!
