WEC every March/April so yes, been a while. There are some prizes IIR but only for teams whose members at least claim to associate in "meatspace" as opposed to "virtually" on the web as does FF (Ex: military units, athletic and rowing associations, public gyms and private clubs, community centers, groups based on incarceration in prisons and corporations. :) :x

I think that the time of the year makes things different - too many things to do and maybe winter in the North makes a difference too.
My meters are down a bit this year - partly on purpose doing shorter things to try to get faster. Henry I think will be up over 300km which is a lot.
I would love to know more about Harry the Finn - he is very good.

I think we may have got out of the habit for the WEC - my memory is that we have done it as a team in the past. I would be happy to log for a month again - lets do it!

We now have a full boat for the IRL - Terry did 304m yesterday (adjusted to 402) and I have just finished a morning session with a 349m (adjusted to 403!)
Quite pleased with that and probably have a go at >350 in the next few days. Terry is the overall "Best Man" leader at the moment though a few to come in the next few days.
Lizh has expressed an interest in doing the CTC challenge but we defo need some more ladies. 4 days to go - maybe Shirley will be listening.

I had my people talk to her people and signed her up and Liz has floated a boat. Did pretty well considering it is a tough challenge - 16:23 @2:20. Probably discovered close to MHR too I suspect (171).

My wife has expressed tentative interest in getting back on the rower after a break of more than 10 years. This month's challenge isn't an ideal first session, but I'll bluff her into believing that rowing with breaks is the way to kick off. It won't be a top time, but at this stage any female times are better than none! I suspect the distance will be a little too far for my nearly 7- and nearly 9-year-old daughters, but I'll test the water with them in a subtle way.

". . . at this stage. . .", Dave? The utility, the desirability, indeed the full-time indispensability of women is pretty much a given, in the CTC as in other arenas of this sporting life.

Since I've been away for a while I may have missed some important info. For instance, is anyone going to the WIRC on February 18th?

I'll be making the trip down to compete in the 70-74 lwt division. Paul Flack (Canoeist) is also going, but has entered the Marathon. I expect him do do well at it. Jack Gilmore lives down there, doesn't he? Anyone else?

Rick, I didn’t know there was a marathon event at WRIK née WIRK. Is it new at Alexandria VA? I am not a southen boy altho live below the Mason-Dixon and the 12mi arc on New Castle that keeps those pesky Pennsylvanians out of DE and deprives Jersey of Delaware River bridge tolls.

Best of luck in the 2k. Looking fwd to hearing how many overcoats you were wearing at weighin. :o And best of luck to Paul Flack, whom I know only as the member of the event staff at Boston ‘17 who helped me find the locker rms. I’m going to watch on the internet and save the Amtrak fare.

The Marathon is not a championship event, but Paul figures his chances in the 2K are not good at the moment, and he likes longer distances anyway. A good chance for him to do with with other people and possibly even win. The Mid-Atlantic Erg Sprints are a two day event that has always had longer distances, including a 30' row.

I suspect that I could pass weigh in while carrying enough 2-liter bottles of water for everyone entered in my event. Unfortunately there are no point awarded for that. Darn it.

IME doing the long stuff with others is a huge advantage. Best of luck to all - getting a bit nostalgic about Boston last year
