Hi Mike - what you can do for this is programme it using the "New Workout / Intervals / Distance" option in the monitor. See here:burritomike wrote:I'm not sure what you mean by this! Edit: OK, maybe I do know what you mean. The workout was four sets of 750 meters with two minutes of easy rowing between each set. Since it wasn't a set time for each set I didn't think there was a way to program the workout so I just rowed it and kept a mental note of when my 750's were done and then started a new 750 two minutes later. The sentence I just wrote makes sense in my head, hopefully it works for others!

For your example, you would programme 750 m and 2:00 min as the work distance and rest time respectively. When you start, the monitor will display the interval number (1, 2, 3 etc), and the remaining metres for the interval. When it gets to zero, the rest period timer appears and counts down e.g. from 2:00 to 0:00. The next interval then starts and the elapsed work time starts counting up again. When you've done enough intervals, just stop and press the menu button and it should save to memory - you can then view it in detail from there.
Other interval programming options include "Time" e.g. 2:00 min work / 2:00 min rest, and "Variable" where you want to use a mix of intervals in a single workout e.g.
750m / 2:00r
2:00, 2:00r
1:00 / 1:00r
1000m / 3:00r
etc

The more I learn about how much this machine can do the more impressed I am. I am looking forward to doing my ranked workouts as well as keeping up with the Workout of the Day. That's a piece better than my effort Jack. Had three weeks off with some flu-type virus, and am now struggling. Legs especially struggling if I try and hold a 2:10 - 2:15 pace, which I haven't felt for ages. Doesn't bode well for this month's IRL 2k.
Shame we just missed out on filling a boat.
After that, I also did SkiErg intervals last night - 5 x 2 min hard / 2 min rest. I wish I had done this challenge on the SkiErg instead as would have filled "SkiErg I" (what's the equivalent of "floating a boat" for the SkiErg teams). Having said that, my SkiErg pace is absolutely dreadful (~2:50) - when I look at the 1000m rankings, there are 47 8-12 year-olds ahead of my time

Paul, I had the HD vaccine for wrinklies, got sick mid January, still feeling it. Had no problem with the memorial challenge beyond rating low midway. This month’s Isenhurst concoction is not so forgiving.

Can someone explain to me (or point me to a good write-up) of how the Cross Team Challenges work? I've been looking at the website as well as the CTC thread and I just don't really get how it works. I did the Carole McNally Memorial challenge last night (I never knew her but from what I read she was a pretty awesome lady to be around) but I don't know how to proceed with it or with the monthly challenge once I do it.

HOW GREAT AM I: simple top down individual ranking based on either elapsed time to complete specified distance or meters rowed in specified time.
TEAM POSITION: end of challenge month all floated boats ranked by average time or average distance rowed by team members. Highest ranked boat awarded points = total no. of floated boats; lowest ranked 1 point. Boats w/ seats unfilled are SOL and do not score points. Team w/ most boats afloat is challenge winner.
HOW REGISTER: Cut and try or ask challenge admin for assistance in CTC thread in Competition subforum.

Jack, I thought that the monthly challenge winner is simply the team with the highest placed boat of all; and that although points are apparently earned for boats II, III, IV etc these actually count for nothing. Mike, the entry window for the McNally one-day is closed of course but plenty of time still to register and row the February challenge. You may not land in a full boat every month (chronic shortage of ladies!) but you won’t row many of these tests without learning a bit about pacing.
