Nice! Interesting that he only rows 20k a day, but cycles 100k, because rowing is too boring... The power of cross training, even for an Olympic silver medal sculler.

I think he mentioned a back issue is why he "only" rows 20K.hobbit wrote:Nice! Interesting that he only rows 20k a day, but cycles 100k, because rowing is too boring... The power of cross training, even for an Olympic silver medal sculler.

What I learned is I'm the anti-rower body/profile... Short and thick with terrible symmetry. Not that I didn't already know this. These guys are just amazing athletic specimens.

I was hoping they did one for XC skiers. They wouldn't match the strength but I would like to see how their lung capacity and VO2 max would compare.

Re: Anatomy of a rower video from the Olympic channel
Oops, my mistake. Thanks for the correction. Still, 20k a day is not a huge volume compared to the numbers that you see mentioned. 90 mins or less a day of the target discipline is much less than cyclists and XC skiers put in.kini62 wrote:I think he mentioned a back issue is why he "only" rows 20K.hobbit wrote:Nice! Re: Anatomy of a rower video from the Olympic channel
He wouldn't cycle 100K/day. That's 62.5miles and about 3hrs on a road bike, so over the week ~20hrs. That's already nearly into cycle pro territory (their training tends to be more targetted than simply getting in miles these days). Most elite rowers will cycle to get additional cardio benefits but won't overdo it. Specificity is key after for a chosen sport after all...that much cycling would be hard to balance with weights/rowing and getting enough calories!!hobbit wrote:Oops, my mistake. Re: Anatomy of a rower video from the Olympic channel
I'd assume it is 100k per week rather than per day.

Re: Anatomy of a rower video from the Olympic channel
Probably not 100K every day, but on the days that he does cycle, 100K is not an overly hard bike ride.Gammmmo wrote:More like it. My bad...JerekKruger wrote:I'd assume it is 100k per week rather than per day.
Mark Underwood. Rower first, cyclist too.
Re: Anatomy of a rower video from the Olympic channel
depends on the intensity obviously. Try riding a 100km 4-up TT for instance when you're the weakest link. Similarly when I podium'd at the UK National 100mile TT in 2015 (my time was 3:38 ish) - that was quite hard.Cyclist2 wrote:Probably not 100K every day, but on the days that he does cycle, 100K is not an overly hard bike ride.Gammmmo wrote:More like it. I knew you were a good cyclist...I didn't realise you were THAT good Paul. Very impressive
