@ Ray - nice times, yeah, I'm guilty of starting out too fast all the time. Those with 2' rest are really tough too.
Thanks Mike!
In all fairness, I did row about 700-800k meters in 2004 when I set a random goal to row a sub 40' 10k. As you can see, I didn't quite make it.

Today was BPP 21.1

Started the 2nd cycle of PP

8 x 500m. Set a target of 1:50 which I held in the first half. Decided to lower it to 1:48 for the next three then everything I had for the last one.

01:50.2 | 01:50.2
01:50.0 | 01:50.0
01:50.7 | 01:50.7
01:48.1 | 01:48.1
01:48.1 | 01:48.1
01:48.2 | 01:48.2

BPP 21.2
4x1k 3r
Target 1:55.2
1) 1:55.1
2) gassed with about 400m to go, focus on form
3) gassed at midpoint, focus on form
4) strapless / form

I've been in the mountains for 1 month. I am coming to the realization this is the new normal with the elevation and hiking. Press on.

While I agree with Henry that you might be starting them off a bit light for your ability, it's better to do that than crash and burn. Plus, you are going all out on the last rep, which self corrects the fact that you are going out light on the first few reps. At least you realized that and corrected some at the midpoint to be a bit tougher, but ideally, you shouldn't have that much left at the end or you're not using up enough for the body of work. It's actually a compliment to your untapped potential is all.

But your next target to beat on that piece next time will be 1:47. That's what I like about the PP. The better you get, the harder it gets.

Depends a bit. If you start out super slow, it will rounds before you even start to really train. I strongly believe in learning to feel what you are doing. If a last rep is 5 seconds or more faster, I think you started to fast.
I bet he now not even was a bit out of breath after the first 5.
I guess sub 1.40 av is doable. Not that he should but certainly could.

Agreed. My target for that workout was 1:52 based on my rather cautious first row on the program. I turned the screw midway, just not enough.

Absolutely agree, you nailed it. All part of the process

I think you'd be pretty safe shooting for 1:45 next time you do that workout Bob. More challenging but should still be far enough below your current potential to avoid plateauing too quickly.

You've definitely got a lot more in you!

Only a few more weeks to go though and massive respect for working your way through the plan without bailing. It'll be interesting to see your times at the end compared to the start.

Pyramid for me today and although I refuse to complain about the heat we are having, I just don't think I'm used to it! My legs were destroyed by the end but I finally managed this session quicker than my 2km PB.

PP 2.1 Pyramid. Target 1:47.7
14:11.3 - 4,000m - 1:46.4 - 29
0:53.4 - 250m - 1:46.8 - 30
1:46.7 - 500m - 1:46.7 - 29
2:40.5 - 750m -1:47.0 - 29
3:32.5 - 1,000m - 1:46.2 - 29
2:40.1 - 750m - 1:46.7 - 28
1:46.1 - 500m - 1:46.1 - 29
0:51.9 - 250m - 1:43.8 - 31

Hi all I've not posted here for a while as I fell off the Pete Plan and have been doing workouts from the The Erg Book, some of which are tough! Anyway I did another 2k test today and managed to reduce my time from 7:31 to 7:26. It wasn't pleasant as we are having a heatwave in the UK so my garage was like a sauna.

I've also made the million metre club so it's been a good day on the erg today.

Hope the rest of you are all pulling well and I'll probably return to the PP once I've got this Erg Book out of my system...cheers all!

Congrats on the 1 million meters! I was pumped when I hit that mark earlier this year. It speaks to you commitment to rowing. The next milestone is 5 million.
