ErgData - interval workout problem

Post by Paul N » July 27th, 2018, 5:00 pm

I've just done a SkiErg 10 x 500m / r0:00 interval workout, recorded with ErgData (Android). It has synced to my logbook but when I view it, there is no splits data (ErgData shows this data as normal). Further, the pace, spm and hr traces of all 10 intervals are included simultaneously on the same graph! At the end of each interval, the traces revert back to the left hand side to start again!

https://log.concept2.com/profile/1135330/log/34210168

Is this a known feature with ErgData and zero rest intervals?

Also, this activity is not auto-syncing to Strava (others have gone across fine); neither can I download its TCX or FIT file - just csv.

Does anyone know if it should be possible to delete the activity from the C2 logbook and then syncing again from the ErgData app, without losing the workout from ErgData? (Slim chance this might solve the problem).

I've contacted C2 but just wondered if anyone here has experienced anything like this.
Row: 500m 2:04.7 | 1k 4:19.4 | 2k 8:55.4 | 5k 23:13.7 | 6k 28:43.9 | 10k 49:31.8 | 1min 257m | 4min 908m | 30min 6,328m
Ski: 500m 2:18.8 | 1k 4:58.8 | 2k 10:01.6 | 5k 25:59.7 | 10k 52:44.7

I have had stuff like that happen a few times -- always on intervals, but always with a rest interval.

I have occasionally had my Strava copy work better, but I guess you are not so lucky.

Take a photo of the piece stored in the monitor memory. It is the best you will ever get.

Deleting and synching will not help. Most of the data on ErgData gets wiped out after synching so as not to overtax your phone's memory. Proof: Just get on your phone's Ergdata and scroll down to some of your workouts from last week. You should find that the HR data for these workouts have been wiped from your phone.

Sorry to break the bad news.

Thanks Stewart - were you also unable to download the TCX & FIT files?

Looks like I shall have to start recording on my Garmin too.

I've just found this post and registered so I can reply...
I am a runner, looking to add in come C2 training to boost aerobic capacity and endurance.
I've so far done 2 interval sessions on the rower (4x2000/2:00 and 2x5000/3:00). Its a PM4, with the latest firmware, capturing the data using ergdata on android.
Both sessions have resulted in screwed up data... Looking at the tcx files downloaded from the C2 logbook, the timestamps for the laps are wrong - for example the start timstamp is after the timestamp for the first track point in the lap. These continue to diverge until all the track points for the entire lap are stamped 'before' it starts! For example, the first interval in the row today is tagged as starting 12:53, but the first track point in that interval is at 13:16 ! I *think* this difference is about the same as the full interval took me - so that could be the bug here.
There is also no HR data, speed etc captured during the rests. Coming from a running background, I tend to have active recovery -so rowing nice and slow rather than stopping. I would expect this data to be included and used in the totals for the overall activity.
Is all this the fault of the PM4 logging incorrectly, or the ergdata app ? Would I have more luck using a different app ? Luckily I also captured both sessions on my garmin - so at least I have full HR tracks etc, but no reliable rowing stats.

Thanks,
Neil

I have the same thing happen to me when I'm using BoatCoach. But looking at the data from the app directly I'm getting the same weird times. They appear to be at the minute boundaries, this is most obvious when I do WP type 4 interval sessions (low fixed rates). I still have these issues after changing my PM4 for a new PM5.

If your PM5 isn't running V27 firmware then the time to upgrade is NOW!

Neil - I think it's a feature of ErgData that data for the rest periods is not recorded (except for metres). I got round this tonight by programming a variable interval workout whereby intervals 1, 3, 5 and 7 were set to 1000m distance intervals for the hard work, and 2, 4, 6 and 8 were set to 2:00 time intervals for the light (rest) work. That way, I got the hr data recorded for all 8 intervals. However, ErgData still seems to require a true rest period between each interval, so I set this to the minimum of 5s for all 8 intervals. Looking at the graphs (but not the tcx or csv files), it seems to have worked okay.

I checked the PM5 on one of the gym SkiErgs tonight - it said hardware version 613 and firmware version 155. This seems odd as 155 (Jan 2017) is supposedly for the rower, not the SkiErg (for hardware versions 600 or higher). However, this particular monitor definitely has a "Just ski", not "Just row" workout, and the pace "boat" (hmmm) is not displayed as a boat, but as a skier. Any ideas Citroen/anyone?

Does updating a PM5 using a USB flash drive usually work ok? The instructions say to power up the monitor after inserting the usb stick. How does one power down and then power up the monitor?

Takes about 8 minutes from a USB stick. You may find that some USB 3.0 sticks aren't compatible - so hunt out that one you've got in the junk drawer from a few years ago.

I'm back on the rower tomorrow so will give this a go. I emailed c2 support about the tcx file not being created properly. The timestamps for the efforts are all wrong on the ones I have. They are going to look into it... I won't hold my breath!
