Hi. Remember me?

I've had a busy year and hardly got in any exercise from the end of April (broke my right foot in the backyard when I missed a step and rolled the ankle/foot) until the end of August (Closed down my business, sold out the inventory over a two-month period, donated stuff, filled a 3-ton dumpster with useless stuff, and took home more useless-but-cool stuff, retired, when to Italy for my daughter's wedding, and finally took a breath.).

Anyway, I gingerly began adding some exercise in early September and have been gradually ramping back up again. I should be able to contribute to the team until I overdo it again.

Squeaked in a CTC before November ended. Slow, butt a bum on a seat. Hopefully will do better in December.

Once again, 2 boats ready to float and only requiring the customary 11th hour intervention by those of the distaff persuasion. Ladies, FF needs you! This challenge requires an investment of time including warmup well within anyone’s fitness erging sched. And short interval format need not raise the spectre of pain, exhaustion, or injury IF you stay in your comfort zone. Only 1221m. It’ a gimme! :D

Rick, I wondered where you went. Lot of life changes but neither death nor alien abduction so good on you. Saw your score in the ctc. Too bad you couldnt do it in drag but ltwts are also in demand. Welcome back, bud!

Hi everyone!

Escapee from the Pete Plan thread here. I started the Beginner Pete Plan in July, having never been on an erg in my life. I'm nearing the end of that, and it was suggested that I should join a team. You all seem like a friendly lot, so I'm yours if you'll have me! I'm afraid I won't be troubling the top of the leaderboards, but I will give my best in every challenge.

Am I right in thinking that the main thing I need to do is create an account on c2ctc.com and list Forum Flyers as my affiliation? Should I also join on the c2 logbook?

Hi Rob,

Very welcome. Good to see some new blood!

Yep about the ctc and affiliation.

The logbook is much more for yourself, think you should join that, has al sorts of links from concept2 and you get a nice log from all your training. I myself have plus year or results in it.

Hi Rob, welcome!
Yes, FF is a friendly, active group of all abilities and nationalities.
Yes we do the CTC - so you need to join that and set your affiliation to Forum Flyers. The CTC signup process is a bit clunky but hopefully you can get signed up ok - this month it's a straight 30 min row - something of a relief after recent months :)

Age 26, 6'2, 88kg? - you'll be a regular in the top boats in no time!

Well done on that weight loss - impressive!

Thanks, guys. I think I have managed to sign up on ctc (after a couple of false starts). I have 30min sessions already booked in for later this week and next week too, so hopefully at least one of those will catch me on a good day!

Sorry I wasn't clear about the logbook - I already am set up and log all my metres, but I saw that it was possible to be part of a team on there too. Is that something the Flyers do or is it mainly the ctc?

Hi Rob,

welcome to the Forum Flyers and congrats on the strong weight loss !

For the logbook, you need to click on your profile picture, select edit profile, click the affiliation tab and select Forum Flyers in the drop down menu and save the change.

Once added, you should see your name/profile/meters appearing here with the meters made so far in the season:

https://log.concept2.com/affiliation/30/season/2019

(you get to that link also via the Challenges pages then the Affiliations standings).

Welcome to FF, Rob. Hope you’re “enjoying” your lunch hours with the Planners. Pfirrman is a good egg and tireless mentor and will see you right.

Moving right along. Got in my CTC early this month instead of at the last minute. Happy for now with 7,127m. Not sure if I'll try it again before the end of the month because I really don't like rowing for time instead of distance. I know it shouldn't matter, but it does. :?

Set time or set distance—going further or getting there sooner—it’s all about average pace. I prefer 30 mikes to 6k. No idea why.

I do more time based than distance stuff too Jack. Started because often training with others in the gym of varying levels and easier to sync with them. It also makes stoke counting easier for me on a rate limited piece - I break it in to 30" bits. and... it reduces the urge to race a piece - keeps it at steady pace.

Managed to get a new PB for the challenge (and, more impressively, successfully post it on the ctc site).

Think I could maybe go slightly further with better pacing. Will try again next week.
