Thanks for the tickle, Lindsay. Not very fresh for this one! About an 80 percent effort on watts.

Nice one, Jack. Given the lack of females, 80% or 100% effort wouldn't have changed the boat position. I'm unlikely to convince the wife to try this as her first row after many years away, but I'll start working on her for the 1500m next month.
Having a pop at my 5km SB later today. Last one was done as a HR-controlled effort before BRIC last year, so I should be able to knock a few seconds off it.

150% of my theoretical max effort (optimistically and vanely predicated on a nearly 4 yr old 2k) wouldn’t improve average pace in most of the boats I’ve helped fill.

Hasn’t stopped me from producing a checkmark in the monthly attendance column.
Interval format attracts some of us and puts others off. Participation may improve on the continuous 1500 starting tomorrow, April 1. Fool that I am, I will attempt (and succeed) in another of my infamously “submaximal” efforts. Ladies, you can do that you know? Olena Buryak does it! Doesn’t have to be a killer TT every trip. Even Henry says so.
Hammer out a nice time on that 5k, Dave.

Thanks Jack, happy enough with the 3% improvement, but still 19% off my 2008 PB. Fair reflection of where I am though at the moment - paced it evenly with HR drifting up linearly into the high 170s before the final 250m sprint.

Sorry - didn't get the memo in time, and have ruined the chances of getting an all-female boat by popping in today's warmup to get a score on the board. Actually, it was just a selfish attempt to get the feel of Boat 1 before I get dumped all the way back down to 6 by month-end.
Today's session was the Sept 2012 CTC - 3 x 300m r 3 min, which Forum Flyers won with Dirk Moller taking number 1 spot with 1:17.7 pace. My effort was a more modest 1:47.7 but still faster than my Boat 11 effort (1:50.3 pace) that year.
I rounded things off with a loosener on the BikeErg before going after my 1 min PB. I didn't want to end the season in last place on the rankings and managed to find an extra 55% watts to move to 8th out of 17 in my age group. I did it on max drag with a classic fly and die (over 500W for the first 20 seconds before dying into the 360s by the end). Now to find time before the end of the month to update some of my other softer ones.

You got the right stuff, Dave! And revisiting the Greatest Hiits of CTC is an interesting pursuit.

@ CTC - 1500m
I've never done a 1,5k TT, any suggestions for pacing? I estimate approx. in the middle of 1k and 2k PB, but maybe a bit closer to 1k?

Nono, just the other way around, much closer to 2k. Aim for current 2k minus one, and give it all in the last 300.

Martin my view is that it depends a fair bit on individual strengths and weaknesses so no hard and fast rule. You would have to be very strong to stay close to 1k pace and so for most it will be more sub 2k rather than plus 1k pace I reckon especially if you have a very strong 1k. In spite of all that the pace will obviously be somewhere in the middle of the two. I will be heading off sub 2k and see how it feels with 500 to go
EDIT - Henry posted whilst I was writing - looks like we agree.
