Suggestion for the computer programmer of c2ctc.com.

I know the answer already, but just suggesting....

To add Instagram icon beside each persons name on the leaderboard on the left and link it to their own account if they wish to share.....Heaps of people using IG in the way of online rowing diary. Also fun to kind of get to know the people above you on the individual leaderboard via IG to challenge and keep you honest when competing the challenges.

One way of doing it would be to have an online GOOGLE Sheet, that anyone can edit etc. Link to it the sheet, under the challenge text area. A few computer geeks could probably manually find all the Rowing Instagrammers out there that regulary do the ctc challenge. Individuals can enter their own IG Url too.

Daren hasn't changed the code since 2005 (except for a fix when FIRT rowing broke it).

You can ask for anything, it won't change.

There are more things that need fixing before you add new feechurs.

The password management stinks. The password encryption isn't using a modern cipher - it's using MD5. The userid select list is a massive pain (especially on a phone). My userid/password doesn't get stored by my browser. The registration should have an email associated with a user and should send a password confirmation link when someone registers (so we know it's a good'un. There's no re-verification of users - there's lots who's signed up then gone away (I cull them occasionally). There's no sensible handling of folks who move teams or go from HWT to LWT (which is why so many folks have more than one ID).

I suspect if Daren designed it today it would look mostly the same, but without those niggles.

We shouldn't knock it, it's worked for 13 1/2 years.

This work out is against the rules? 45 min max.

My calculations is 19 minutes for rest and 30 minutes of actual rowing. Total 49 min.

There are guidelines but I think the majority will complete this in less than 45 minutes.
To row 300m in 1:30 you would be rowing at 2:30 pace.
In June 2018 the CTC was a 10k and the top 457 rowed faster than this pace, so should be able to do 6k of short intervals much faster.
FWIW 387 people were under 45 minutes but the remaining 99 were not.

The rule is 45 minutes so that you can row it in an hour lunchtime session.

5 mins to change
45 mins to row it
10 mins to shower and get dressed

So with 19 mins of rest that gives you 26 minutes of rowing.

6K in 26 minutes is an average 2:10 pace.

I think 18 reps for 5400m (28 mins rowing as we get 2 mins less resting - 2:35 pace (if I've got my sums right)) may be better for the slow old farts.

Of simply time based, for longer Ctc s you have both sides that way. The faster rowers can get a high volume session in, and the slower ones stay below 45 min.

In this case I expect the fast guys to pull 1.30

Maybe 45 or 50 second reps instead of 300m. But he, not a Oarsome team member, so nothing to really say :P

I'm with you on that too Henry - makes sense 50"/1'R or the other way around - but we aren't TO either.

As I said yesterday, 99 of 486 (20.4%) were over 45 minutes for the MAD 10k.
PaddyPower's 10k from Oct 2016 had 69 of 449 (15.4%) over 45 minutes.
Looking further back:
SYC's restricted 10k r24 had 51 of 315 (16.2%) over 45 minutes.
Empty the Tanks' Half a HM had 81 of 296 (27.4%) over 45 minutes.
Using the 26 active minutes of 45 to complete 6k of intervals at a <2:10 will include more rowers than a 45 minute 10k at <2:15 pace.
We stand by our choice: 20x300m R1:00.

David, don't worry we've never enforced any of the rules for the CTC.
