Leg Attachment Difficulties

Hi there,

Just received my Concept2 Model D and am very excited! I am, however, stumped about its assembly. Seems like it should be simple, and I've stared at the instructions and watched videos but can't get it to work. With the long leg on the caster side, and oriented towards the end of the machine, the attachment holes don't line up. I hope I'm missing something super simple, but it seems like the long leg is at the wrong angle.

Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

If the link posted above doesn't help you, take some pictures of your Model D showing your problem, post them here, and we can try to figure things out with you.

I believe I had the same experience.

I don't recall how it resolved, but the legs are somewhat malleable and some pressure was involved.

I had the same experience with my brand new Mod D when it arrived in February - direct from C2.

One of the legs the holes didn't line up correctly. I've ended up using a couple of washers and a spacer to get it to work.

IIRC it was exactly the same when I got my Mod C back in 2003 or so !

Hi all,

Thank you for your responses. Unfortunately, it's not close enough that I can force it to fit. And I don't have the tools in my apartment to bend such sturdy metal. Perhaps Concept2 could send me another set of legs? Or just the long leg as it seems that's the one at the wrong angle.

I'd say you have two options:

1) Call C2 on Monday and see what they suggest.

2) If you want to play around with things you could lift the front (longer) leg until the rear leg flange matches the plane and holes in the frame where the fasteners go and put the bolts in until they're snug. Then attempt to wrestle the front end into position as best you can to get the front bolts engaged, and screw them down to force the front flange into position. If at any point you're uncomfortable with the amount of force (or toque) necessary to do the job, then stop and see what C2 says. If it works don't forget to tighten all fasteners to the correct torque when you're done.

Personally, I would try (2).

I don't know about the Model D, but I just measured the front ones on my Model C, and the fwd of the pair is ~23.5" long and the aft one is ~19" long.

It's hard to tell in the image if the cross-bar with the wheels has been installed backwards or not, which is one thing that could confuse the situation.

That's how it appears to me. Something needs a 180° turn.

From the pictured angle, it appears that the cross bar with the wheels is backwards and that the entire attachment is also backwards.

I would try rotating the cross bar 180° and then the entire attachment 180°. Then secure one end of the entire attachment and apply some pressure to align the other end.

Check whether you bolted the two supports for the slanted beam correctly.
The support to the front of the rower should be on top ; the support pointing to the PM should be bottom.

I had a great call with Concept2 and they kindly and quickly shipped me a couple replacement legs. It's now quite clear that the original long leg was bent at the wrong angle. No amount of rotating or flipping would have made it work.

Glad that worked out for you. Yet another example of why C2 customer service is known to be very good - but if their Manufacturing and their Quality Control processes hadn't messed up in the first place none of this would have happened, and they wouldn't have had a frustrated customer.

I could be way off base, but with the order backlog like C2 has experienced this past 12 months, I expect some QC processes have suffered at times. Only stands to reason. Fantastic company none the less.
