Anyone Know Where I Can Find A Replacement Flywheel?
Anyone Know Where I Can Find A Replacement Flywheel?
Model d, nobody seems to have them.
Re: Anyone Know Where I Can Find A Replacement Flywheel?
Needing a replacement flywheel is pretty rare, what happened?

Concept 2 site says you should call, even though they aren't available for on-line purchase.
There appear to be 3rd party suppliers, as well: https://www.sportsmith.com/flywheel-ass ... uct/P17212

Re: Anyone Know Where I Can Find A Replacement Flywheel?
You can also find replacements for the clutch bearing, if that's the problem. But it is press fit into the flywheel, so you need tools of mass destruction to change it.
Re: Anyone Know Where I Can Find A Replacement Flywheel?
Exactly. The clutch bearing gives every so often than catches right away. I don't have the tools or knowledge to replace it so I figured it'd simpler to replace the flywheel.
Re: Anyone Know Where I Can Find A Replacement Flywheel?
Yes, in 1992 I got a Concept-2 competitor which I really liked but its clutch bearing went after 10 years and many million meters. I ended up junking the thing, but maybe I should've tried harder to fix it. There were no Web parts stores at the time. I got a Model D in 2003 (first year of production) and so far so good after 19 years and many more million meters.
The competitor (called AirRow but no relation to what is currently marketed using that name) had an epicyclic gear mechanism and airplane cable on a spool instead of a chain. Same air baffle arrangement and erg quantities -- about 10% "harder" than the C2, though. My PB for 10K was 40:00 on the AirRow and 37:00 on the C2. But that was 30 years ago. Now I'm mid-high 40's.

You might try rinsing the bearing with WD40 or solvent, and then drying it and oiling with motor oil. It may be just sticky rather than broken.
I did see a YouTube video of somebody who used a home-made removal tool but now the Algorithm won't show it to me. The bearing itself is about $20 on the web.

Re: Anyone Know Where I Can Find A Replacement Flywheel?
Call C2, they will get you one.
Before you call, open flywheel cage, put rower on its side and put a little penetrating oil or 3inOne on the bearing.
@ c2jonw had a procedure documented for this, and there was a youtube video showing how to do it from someone else. I can't find either. The skill level to do this is easy, and you need to do this procedure as part of the more complicated (but not hard) flywheel replace procedure.
edit: found the video: Look at 13:40 in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUj80NH9Dgc&t=820s

Re: Anyone Know Where I Can Find A Replacement Flywheel?
I did that a few months ago. I just did it again but haven't been able to test it. I wouldn't think it would need it so frequently.Tsnor wrote: ↑May 2nd, 2022, 1:01 pmCall C2, they will get you one.

Re: Anyone Know Where I Can Find A Replacement Flywheel?
No wonder I couldn't find it on YouTube.
The clutch replacement description was in this forum: viewtopic.php?t=158385
If you google concept2 clutch replacement you'll find several sources.
I think that Model B,C,D all use the same. Trust but verify.

Re: Anyone Know Where I Can Find A Replacement Flywheel?
If it's broken, will it appear as such when I inspect it? I took off the flywheel and viewed it yesterday and it looked in tact as far as I could tell.gvcormac wrote: ↑May 2nd, 2022, 10:54 amYou might try rinsing the bearing with WD40 or solvent, and then drying it and oiling with motor oil. Re: Anyone Know Where I Can Find A Replacement Flywheel?
I don't think you can know without taking it apart. Try the solvent and see if it engages. I suspect it will. Maybe it will last 6 months, or 6 years.Er1c wrote: ↑May 2nd, 2022, 6:35 pmIf it's broken, will it appear as such when I inspect it? Re: Anyone Know Where I Can Find A Replacement Flywheel?
I took off the flywheel and the bearing seems to be functioning normally. It rolls smoothly when I spin it and doesn't seem to have any damage. I cleaned it out with some mineral spirits and added the motor oil. We'll see.gvcormac wrote: ↑May 2nd, 2022, 8:14 pmI don't think you can know without taking it apart.
