I loved the Dune books (well, the first few, anyway ... they jumped the shark after a while) ... and, both movies were okay, too. I don't remember anyone sandboarding ... but, as long as you can go faster than a worm, I guess it'd work.

True, no sandboarding in Dune. Took a bit of license there. I was watching the sandboarding video and immediately thought of Dune, and I started thinking how the movements on the board wouldn't attract the worms. Not sure why all this came to mind, but I decided to run with it. Not shown in the video is what I would guess to be quite a slog back up to the top of the dune - and she would have been worm food for sure. Also no water reclamation. Still, it was fun to imagine sandboarding in a Dune context. It's been a while, but I remember stopping after about the 3rd or 4th book. I remember finding the first movie version disappointing, but I liked the newer version, and I'm looking forward to Part 2 of the newer version.

Hear ye, hear ye! The Valentines Challenge is coming up - 14,000 meters between Feb 9 and Feb 14.
There are also two other challenges that run through all of Feb - the Military Challenge and the Tour De SkiErg. But unfortunately, it's not easy for me to search their Honor Boards to report on team members participating in those challenges.

I also loved the first couple of books, but couldn't get into the later ones.
I hated the first movie - years ago. Loved the new one.
I think sandboarding might not be too safe - not enough random movement.

'Tis the season for a Valentine Challenge.
To every challenge, turn, turn, turn
There is a season, turn, turn, turn
A time to row, a time to ski
A time to bike, time for a new knee ...
Corny, I know. Hope the healing is going splendidly, K2!

You come up with the unexpected and the amazing, danwho! I will indeed miss this challenge, but am happy to report that the PT people let me back on the bike today! I was only allowed to pedal backwards, and those first few revolutions were enough to call on the saints….but it got better! I am still a victim of tsetse fly syndrome- spontaneous napping as I heal. Am off the heavy drugs thankfully, although the transition messes with you.
And 100 million Lunie team meters! That’s amazing and what a great milestone!
Working my way back! Thanks everyone for keeping us on the galactic journey!
