Does distance count? I hit 1M meters today. My first row was 7\19\2024 .
Hey it is something! What are your PBs?

Just managed 1:59.4 r20 8*500m 2R! So I should be able to hold sub 8 2k while keeping rating to 20.

But extending this to 30 minutes in four months… it’ll be tight. I learnt that meters do matter, and when in doubt slow down the steady state and increase the distance/time. Go 80/20 polarized training even for 3-4 hours of training. You’ll improve quick!

And we're done (well, for the season): HM PB 1:25:15.6 (was 1:26.04.6).

Didn't want to push hard at the end, fearing last minute cramps or something wrecking it, but overall not paced too badly for my standards.

Code: Select all

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M HR
1:25:15.6 21,097 2:01.2 196 975 26 164

That's a great finish of the season!
Good bit cut off with consistent pacing :)
Well done!

Considering you were reluctant to even contemplate doing this, you've properly smashed this out of the park. Excellent finish to the season
Thx all. And yeah, I would have been happy even with less.

But I'm pretty sure end of Nov I was in a better shape for longer stuff but then life decided to interfere and well, here we are :)

Damn dude, you could go to the corner store and get a gatorade and some snacks and come back in time to still beat me

But I am happy with my 1:58:58 which is a new PR bc first time doing that distance:

Code: Select all

1:58:58.0 21,097 2:49.1 72 548 24 118
25:04.4 4,300 2:54.9 65 525 24 117
24:32.7 8,600 2:51.2 70 539 24 118
23:57.7 12,900 2:47.1 75 557 25 116
23:58.7 17,200 2:47.2 75 557 24 118
21:24.4 21,097 2:44.7 78 569 25 121
I was stoked to be on the first page of the challenge leaderboard (bc alphabetical). Also my wife was impressed that I set the American record for the season ("and I'm currently ranked 4th in the entire world") lolol

Starting the new season with what I hope is a good omen for the year ahead...

Half Marathon PB, done live on ErgZone with three of my Sub7 teammates via the Live/Scheduled feature (as it's our May Sub7 club challenge). PB by 28.5 seconds, and managed to squeeze under my goal of going sub 1:14.

Code: Select all

Time	Meters	Pace	Watts	Cal/Hr	S/M
1:13:54.9	21,097	1:45.1	301	1337	28
6:59.3	2,000	1:44.8	304	1345	28
6:59.4	4,000	1:44.8	304	1345	28
7:00.4	6,000	1:45.1	301	1337	28
7:00.6	8,000	1:45.1	301	1336	28
7:02.0	10,000	1:45.5	298	1325	28
7:00.3	12,000	1:45.0	302	1338	28
7:03.4	14,000	1:45.8	295	1315	28
7:01.8	16,000	1:45.4	298	1327	28
7:02.6	18,000	1:45.6	297	1321	28
7:01.2	20,000	1:45.3	300	1331	29
3:44.1	21,097	1:42.1	328	1430	31
Not gonna lie, it would've been nice to eke out a sub-1:45 avg pace, and I thought it might be possible with ~2k left, but I didn't have enough in the tank to wind the split down in any meaningful way down the stretch, with a 1:40 split being my "low pull" and all I could muster as I closed in on the finish. This one wiped me out, with the lower back and glute/hamstring stiffness and soreness afterwards on par with my March marathon effort. Not a time trial I plan on repeating for some time!

Picks up jaw off the floor.....as usual stunning stuff Justin. Since I can no longer manage 1:45 for 2k, 10.5 of them on the trot just seems like a totally different sport. Will be delighted if I get within 13 mins of you!

That one is insane.... I can't even do that for 2k, so to notch it up with so much consistency for 21k is difficult for me to comprehend just how vast the difference between our fitness/strength levels are. :o

Yeah, while Jbrown1215 accompanies me to the store, takes a 10min power nap after that and still waits for me and you on the finish line :)

I guess it's true for all sorts of sports, but looking at what serious athletes do is so humbling ... but as I've read so many times here, beating yourself is already something.

P.S.
Recently I've stumbled on an article showing somebody living nearby winning the 2025 French indoor rowing championship (500m and 2K) in the category 14-16 years old. In my head 14-16 is just a tad outside childhood. But I went to check his results: 500m 1:22.5, 2K 6:19.9. Yawn.

Opted for the CTC today. As the 6k is a rankable distance I thought I could try a PB. Last one being from last summer where I was in my very best shape since I started rowing.

Felt mentally and physically tired. But heart rate told my I could go for it. I beat my time by 4 second. So I think I’m fit again. Pretty proud but now I will have an easy week (and hopefully better sleep  )
