Marathon PB by accident.
It all started with "do it for the pin". I opted for the average pace of my FM I did nearly 2 years ago, so went with 2:02.x.
Halfway done I thought I could ramp up the pace, as I did in the first one as well and see how that goes. No intentions for a massive PB, as strength session yesterday and Rowbin Hood session the day before took really something out of me, which is indicated by the higher starting HR.

Code: Select all

Time	Meters	Pace	Watts	Cal/Hr	S/M	♥️
2:47:07	42,195	1:58.8	209	1018	20	154
21:35.5	5,300	2:02.2	192	959	19	141
21:35.3	10,600	2:02.1	192	960	19	144
21:34.7	15,900	2:02.1	192	961	19	140
21:29.7	21,200	2:01.6	194	968	19	152
20:44.1	26,500	1:57.3	216	1045	21	164
20:18.4	31,800	1:54.9	230	1093	22	167
20:22.5	37,100	1:55.3	228	1085	22	167
19:26.8	42,195	1:54.5	233	1102	23	161
I've done this with no food and drinks again. Two small sips to wet my mouth at ca. 25 and 35k. At second "break" I put some small pads under my butt, as I had some discomfort the first time (more on the left side, indicating I'm not working fully symmetrical). This is why the split is a bit slower.
All considered this was an amazing row!
Thx Keith, indeed, it went really well B)

New 500m skierg PB during gym warmup B)
Coming from 1:31.3, it was a good improvement.

Code: Select all

Time	Meters	Pace	Watts	Cal/Hr	S/M
1:30.0	500	1:30.0	480	1952	61
Huge improvement Sascha - great stuff - anything over 1s on short sprints shouldn't be possible! But of course it was .1 too slow for the full whooppeee, that will have to wait until next time! :D
Haha, I saw the split going up, 1:29.7...1:29.8...1:29.9...and I couldn't maintain power
Thought I could get it below 1:30, but won a round up by PM5 math :P
I had no trial for a bit longer, so I expected an improvement, but not that much! Very satisfied :D

Do you put in a wild final lunge to cross the line? Or were you full out sprinting anyway (not used the ski so no idea on tactics). On Rowerg I always put in a partial stroke on TTs at the end, frequently finishing with split 5S faster and rating >50 for this. Short of all out sprints I very rarely see rounding down. Some people relax the other way and cruise across the line, very tempting when you have given it your all, but the impact on the time is significant.
56, lightweight in pace and by gravity. Currently training 3-4 times a week after a break to slowly regain the pitiful fitness I achieved a few years ago. Free Spirit, come join us http://www.freespiritsrowing.com/forum/

Yeah, I know this partial stroke method on the rower. For the skierg I was going at rate 61 and the movement is quite short, so it's difficult to add a partial stroke from timing perspective already. As you move differently, it is not easy to add a partial stroke at the end of another one like on the rower. On the rower you can only use arms and be fast with your half stroke. On skierg you need to stand up again, raise your arms to a minimum height you would need for a partial and then pull with useless effort, as only arms does not work on the skierg.
At least this is my experience with this machine

Okay, please do not laugh. I bought rower March 1. On March 2, I did my first 2k in 11:08 (you can laugh at this, I may have been reading the instructions while I rowed, idk). On March 3 I did 10:20, then on March 5, 9:52, probably just by "trying a lil harder". Then after some training, on April 13, I got 8:50. Today I got 8:33.6, moving me into the 17th percentile, lol. (It was also after I did a 30 minute PR and then 2.5k PR, so I am not asking for credit, but I think it's fair that I could have been a few seconds faster if I were fresh.)

When I bought the RowErg in Sep 2021 I was 48yo, 173cm and 84kg (so pretty close to you), with a background of at least 10 years of zero physical activity. My 1st 2K attempt has been 3 months after, at 7m58s. Now I'm faster (still amateur level), lighter (10-12Kg less) and I have completed 4 marathons.

I do not train like a madman: let's say 4 sessions/week, 1.5h-2h each. But that's now, not when I started. You can probably do less (like 3 or 4x1h) and still progress a lot, especially in the beginning.
I didn't change my diet (I still see some pleasure in eating and drinking good stuff, sorry).
I find it very hard to be in bed before midnight/1am (which is a no-no when you wake up at 6h30am).

No matter all that, if you stick to it you'll progress. No doubt.
Find videos for technique (I liked Dark Horse Rowing on youtube when I started, now I just listen to music) if this helps not getting bored
When you feel ready, find a plan that you don't perceive as a punishment.
