Rest button on the PM3...
Rest button on the PM3...
I am rowing a long way in the not too distant future. I will be doing this on a PM3.
Does the PM3 have a 'rest' button in the same way that its predecessor had? Ideally I would like to hit this button to give me the opportunity to take on fuel etc. without the figures returning to zero...

If you enter "Just Row" everything pauses (meters and time) 6 sec after you break and resumes counting when you resume rowing. You can then end the session and recall all data by hitting "Menu/Back". Another thing to check is the timeout (power off), I think it is 4 minutes, but there have been some changes in recent updates, so testing it for sure would be a good idea so that it didn't spoil your long row totals.

I was hoping to do something similar, let me explain and see if anyone can give me tips.
I'd like to row intervals of a fixed length, but the rest intervals would be dictated by heart rate. Is there anyway to do this and record both intervals and time rested? (Besides keeping a pad and pencil on the side
)

Well, it looks like the PM3 will only do rest time, so one way to hack that would be to set up your Work distance (or time) with the shorest rest interval allowed (5 sec) then set up a short distance (100m is minimum) as your rest interval, also with a 5 second rest period.editedby wrote:I was hoping to do something similar, let me explain and see if anyone can give me tips.

You will have to cover the 100m somehow, but beginning a paddle once your HR has gone to where you want it should not bother it too much. At the end you will get a series of alternating intervals and the 100m Time +10 is your "rest" interval time.
Even with ErgMonitor you would have to hack it together similar to this, however the rest interval can be of a shorter distance (40m or sho would do it) and there would be no need to add any additional seconds on review.

My guess is that the PM4 sets up just like the PM3, so more than likely I'll be saying that the advice stands.

The differences are the Games option of the main menu and the Suunto ANT HR options (from the More Options menu).

For example if you are rowing for 80 minutes, set the splits for 4 minutes each. Row 4 minutes, then easy 4 minutes checking heart rate, alternating faster 4 minutes and then slower 4 minutes and so on.
I have done this quite a few times and it works very well.
