Cool, I've won something... sort of!?

I've been low profile lately since three weeks ago I decided to do a triathlon  . It's being held on Mother's Day.

I'm only using the erg to get a bit of extra aerobic work in as I feel I should probably do some trail running, mountain biking, kayaking BEFORE the event.

That being said I will TRY to get a faster time in before the end of the month for the CTC, seeing as Trevor and Francois have recently put in the effort.

Cheers,

Second row of the month / second kick at CTC. Maybe 1 more.

Kit, great row, you inspired me to get on the machine!

Michelle & Dan, thanks for the cheers, I had a lot of fun in the race, only got lost twice.

Dan, I'll take the shiny gold ones.

Cheers,

Kind of quiet around here lately. Anyone heard from Troy?

It certainly has been quiet (and I haven't heard from Troy).

Dave you really put in a great effort this month? Are you going to get under the 2 minute mark?

Thanks Trevor. I gave it everything I had and every muscle was burning approaching the end. I don't think sub-2 is possible for me this month.

I will try to get in at least one more attempt this month; I will attempt to gut it out and go mainly anaerobic for most of the time. I am probably too conservative at the start and need to go pretty much flat out. Is this how you approach the shorter sprint challenges? I am still impressed with an lmost sub 2 time.

I will be away until Tuesday. Hopefully one of the women will post an entry soon

I'm no expert Trevor but I set myself what I thought was a good target pace just a little slower than my 500m PB pace and held it as long as I could. There wasn't much left in the tank at the end, so my target pace was almost spot on. This distance is pretty much flat out all the way I'm afraid.
Watch out, Troy's back!!! B)
Two weeks to get a CTC time. Don't put your back out again though
Where are all the ladies? I keep asking Fiona to do the CTC but she always finds something else to do instead!

I guess your back's better now then Troy!? B)
Maybe, just maybe I'll have another go late in the month and see if sub-2 is possible.

I could only manage 2:50, but perhaps I would have been faster if I had tried it before I had rowed 5000 meters in my workout for the day! I'll try again tomorrow after just a few hundred easy meters as a warm up.

yeah - it was a test, so hope I don't regret it in the morning.

Almost had you! ... but I still have another week ;)

I hate to tell you Charles, but I find that my times actually improved for the short sprint trails if I do about 5000 metres with spurts of 10 to 15 really hard pulls (ie max effort) at 30 to 35 strokes per minute rate every 1000 metres, finishing of with 15 max effort pulls at race pace. I then rest for four minutes; the warm up requires training your body to get ready for full out effort from a standing start.

I am sure the others on this forum could be more informative. One of the resons I like this team and forum is the great support and advice. (However the last two months I have been somewhat of a slacker both on the rower and on the forum)

As to the $1000, probably the best long term investment you will ever do.

Get your wife on the rower! we need some females to get our boats in competition.

Hey Charles,
Nice improvement in your CTC time. Next time set your monitor to record a 500m split and you'll have a new PB for the 500m!

Thanks for the encouragement Dave. Today I rowed PBs for the 1k, 2k, 500m and the new time for the 666m for CTC.

Well, I finally managed to "encourage" Fiona into having a go at the CTC. Its 33C (41C with the humidity) here and our A/C isn't working but the basement is reatively cool.
We still need a LWT for boat 2. Come on guys!
