First 10K of the season: 41:14 including the first 1K as a warmup (4:20) and able to pull sub 2:00 for last 500m. Nice and steady the rest of the way @26 rating.

last year's best was only 41:39.7.

Then did an hour pilates class.

Now comes Siesta time.

New 500m PB! 1:31.8!!

Old PB was 1:32.5.

Splits were (from memory) 1:32.0, 1:31.0, 1:31.0, 1:31.0, 1:34.5

Oh yeah, this was done after a weight training session that included some pretty heavy deadlifts.

Great job! Especially after lifting!

That's a nice even pacing for a 500m. It's always tough to find full seconds in the short distances...

5000m 18:53.0 (1:53.0 pace) last seasons wave 18:58.6.
1K Splits: 1:55.9 1:54.0 1:52.7 1:52.6 1:51.1
DF=114

Happy because I just hopped on the erg to get get a quick workout in before going out for the evening. Did not do a warm up not intend to go for a PB. It was relatively easy. I'm sure I could drop 5 to 10 seconds without too much trouble. Haven't been trying to get any PB since before the first of the year. I think all my recent best time could be broken relatively easily.

Also did 35K this morning in 2:21:50.6 (2:01.6 pace). Since its my first one I guess thats a PR too :). Figuring out how to eat and drink on the erg. Lost 30-40 seconds to eating and drinking. Think I could cut it down some more. DF=114 Solid workout but wasn't too hard

Great going, Nosmo!

I did 15789m in one hour yesterday (1:54,0)
That's a "soft" PB, but it also was my oldest one.

Thanks and good job on your one hour piece. Looking at your times you should be able to break your HM without too much trouble. And your marathon is very slow compared to the rest of your times. I could easily beat your Marathon time, but could only do your one hour pace for less then 30 minutes. So you are do for two more PRs! (At least if your willing to sit on the erg for that long. :) ).

Thanks for your confidence!
Until 2 days ago, my HM was much better than my 1 hour (as a matter of fact, I'm still quite proud of it), so now I'm under pressure again...

I've skipped this year's FM, so this will have to wait until next marathon challenge in april, my butt hurts only from thinking at one...

Just 5 blasted meters short!

Post by parishd » May 19th, 2007, 6:52 pm

In February, I was finally able to start rowing regularly again after a several year break due to back problems. Today I decided to do my 60 min row a bit faster (2:08) than usual and to go for the full 60 min instead of including a 5-min cool-down in the 60 min total. I still had quite a bit left towards the end and so was able to sprint at ~1:51-1:53 for the last ~1250 meters. The end result was 14,285 m, just 5 blasted m short of my PB set in June 1995!

I feel pretty good though as I seem to be in better shape than I was then and should be able to PB it in the near future. Haven't tried any of the other times/distances yet, but the 2K will probably be next.

5K --20:18.6 193.4 w 26 spm--this AM at home on Model B in the garage. :D

Beats the 20:26 I did in march on the Model Ds at the gym.

Wasn't trying for PR, just trying to work on not dropping the pace in the middle-3rd quarter of my rows. Started out at 2:06.8 for the first 500m then was a reasonably steady 2:02.5-2:02.9 through next 2500m. Inched up to 2:01.6 for next 1K and gradually increased pace to sub 2:00 with stroke rate up to 28 on last 500m in 1:56.1 .

Warm up and cool down of 8 minutes each for total workout of 8360m.

Nice substitute since otw session cancelled due to a kids triathlon at our lake site.

17:53,3 for the 5k
Wasn't really out for a PB, but managed a nice negative splitting, and it came "alone":
1:48,6 - 1:48,1 - 1:47,9 - 1:47,5- 1:44,4

500m 1:31.6 (previous 1:31.8). Done after relatively heavy weight training session (worked up to 415x3 in deadlifts)

Not much improvement but a little.

If you don't mind me asking Jack S, what are some of your other times? I haven't done a 500m all out in a very long time, and the closest thing I have done to it was 2min all out which resulted in ~1:34 I think.
PB's:
500: 1:39
2k: 6:43.3
6k: 21:44.1

Today, on a whim, I decided to pull a 2k. I was planning on lifting weights and doing a longer row, but I just "felt it." It turned out to be a good idea:

Old time: 8:16
New time: 7:55.6

It was funny. Going into it I thought I'll be happy if I break 8:10 (since I just did the 8:16 a month ago). However, after coming out of my starting sequence (about 15 strokes) I saw my split was at 1:58 at 30 spm. I thought this was too fast, but I didn't feel bad, so I thought well, let's keep it up. I fell back a little at the 1000 meter mark to about 2:00, but kept the stroke rate up. I was at the gym, and a rower I met who saw me warming up came over and gave me some encouragement for the last 500 meters that helped me bring it home at 35 spm (way more than I have done before). In any case, I felt great, but then I didn't feel so good. A couple hours and a dinner later, I feel good again. :) My new friend thought I was crazy when he saw me cooling down. I joked with him, "I'm not a college rower anymore...I have to cool-down after my workouts!"

Best regards,
Bryan
