Providing autographs and discs of his races shows just how deeply he understands -- almost a quarter century later -- how much that 1984 triumph means to rowers everywhere. When you finish Casitas, start "Wanted: Rowing coach." It's not the bravado-filled portrait of rowing obsession that is Casitas -- nothing is. Rather, it's more of a how-to guide for setting goals and then working as hard as possible to achieve them.
Hi Jamie,
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll order that next. As I said, I picked up Assault on Casitas and I couldn't stop reading, so I did it on one sitting. It's not often I've done that with a book.

Byron,

Did you order from Amazon.com? I would like to get an autographed copy and also the DVD.

I am currently reading Bowerman and the Men of Oregon but will derfinitely make this my next book. On amazon there are 14 reviews and all are 5 stars. Don't see that too often.

Hi Rich,

I went to amazon to order it, and when I clicked on the picture of the book, they give a list of sellers, including Brad Lewis. I completed the order using amazon but with Brad Lewis as the seller, and the autographed book and CD was shipped by Brad Lewis. I forgot to mention that shipment was very prompt.

Yesterday, without me even having ordered anything, I received a package from Brad Lewis. Inside was a hand-written note that said, "Hi, James. Here's some lite reading (and DVDing) to get you through the long winter. [signed] Brad."

To my astonishment Brad sent me his latest book -- "Walking Towards Thunder" -- and a DVD of his documentary, "A Fine Balance" (the story of the U.S. mens rowing team and its journey to the 2000 Olympic Games).

I've traded e-mail a few times with Brad. To me, of course, each message was special; after all, I was corresponding with one of my all-time favorite heroes. But it never, ever occured to me that Brad Lewis would send me a care package to motivate me with my training. He really is an amazing guy.

Since I'm stuck at home with the flu, I've already watched the DVD -- twice. As you'd expect, it's beyond compelling.

Jamie, I bought the DVD at the Head of the Charles Regatta a few years back and have watched in several times--usually while doing 90' UT2 workouts from the Interactive Program. It's just the right length, and as you say, compelling.

Get it while it lasts!

http://cgi.ebay.com/A-Golden-Age-The-Au ... dZViewItem

Sir Steve Redgrave's hardback 'A Golden Age: The Autobiography.' There were two last week and I got one of them. Only $1.34 for the book and 3.99 for the shipping = $5.33 total. Mine seemed to be in new condition, although bent a bit at the corners of the hard cover. Maybe not good enough to want ot give as a gift, but plenty good to be an honored part of my own book collection.

I just completed Brad Alan Lewis's "Assault on Lake Casitas."

Compelling reading!!
Ordered through Amazon and was very happily surprised to get it signed by Bard and including a DVD of the 84 olympic races!

Thanks for the tip Jamie!
