Welcome! I hope you enjoy your rowing. People do different things, but I enjoy listening to audio books while rowing. If competition motivates you, the Fall Team Challenge can be a lot of fun. Let us know how you're doing and if we can offer any help.

With all the palindromes happening, don't forget that the last of the batch (September 19) is also International Talk Like A Pirate Day. Arrrgh and walk the plank matey!

Got approval to get back on the erg, so will do some meters later tonight. No knee replacement until 2020 though. Rats.

There are many quirky things about our forum postings, so I'll take a minute over the next few days to talk about some of them.

Palindromes - these are numbers that read the same forwards and backwards.

Moons - when someone ergs a half marathon or a distance that is at least 21,097...then it's a half moon. A full moon is a full marathon or more.

Names - sometimes something happens and a teammate gets a name that wasn't the one they started out with in this life. Minnie is really Chris T, but was named after Minnie Mouse of California in a slightly complicated bit of events. Thor, well Thor is Michael W. During the Holiday Challenge, everyone has to earn their reindeer (at 100000 m), and that reindeer gets a name. Sometimes people ask for specific names. Thor the reindeer stayed as Michael's name, and now we only know him as Thor.

And then there's Shaun the Sheep Image and that's really Norma...who made the statement that she was feeling sheepish one day...and that's how it happened.

More explanations:

Welkian palindrome...back in the still black and white days of television, there weren't a whole lot of choices - and especially not choices that happened before bedtime curfew. One of the shows was Lawrence Welk. Some of you will recall that he would lead his orchestra
with "a one and a two" and then all those champagne bubbles would happen. So any palindrome that has ones and twos only is a Welkian palindrome. And there are reverse Welkians, but I believe you can figure those out. Goofiness is a gift.

Don't forget to check your mileage occasionally, and take advantage of Concept2's generous loot incentives. I just happened to glance at my bikeErg meters on the CHALLENGES tab, and ... zounds ... I've passed 5 MM, which entitles me to a complimentary long sleeved tee shirt. Just in time for cooler weather. I'm stoked! Ready to leap (in my dreams) back on the bikeErg and pedal my way into Carnival Row, tonight.
