I won't ever forget you my friend...you helped me "enormously" in getting started with this sport that I wish I had found much earlier.
Sub 7... 2k before the end of the year is definitely on target.. probably @+/- 7:10 right now. Things are finally starting to click...
Thanks Again!
Thanks John, that's appreciated. Sub 7 is definitely going to happen.

Funnily enough, I'm currently watching the highlights of the Giro as I type this.

3 x 5k 1r just to give me a bit of a safety net if it still felt a bit too much. I much prefer doing a single distance.

It's been a week.

Last Sunday I was supposed to travel out of state for two days (out Sunday, home Monday night) for a relatively quick work trip. The plan was to hit a quick BW circuit on Sunday afternoon and again Monday morning to do something while traveling and then pick training back up on Tuesday.

Before my flight boarded on Sunday, I got a call asking if I could head to another city after my initial stop to check out a new project we picked up. Pretty vague information other than "no idea what we could be walking into but if you can get us a rough idea, we'll figure out what's next".

Changed my Monday flight to go to another city instead of home. Tuesday morning another BW circuit to get something done, then the week unraveled.

Walked into two 17 story buildings, three 8 story buildings, three 4 story buildings, and four 3 story buildings that all sustained pretty substantial damage from recent tornadoes. Ended up spending the rest of the week there getting an initial survey done which involved climbing countless flights of stairs as power and elevators were out. Unfortunately, was not able to get to any kind of local facility with barbells / plates or an erg so did BW circuits every day of the week to do something that got my HR up and put some stress on the muscular system just to hold me over.

I am finally back home and will be picking up training where I left off.

On a positive note, there was not a single day where I didn't train - the minimum I did each day was 25 rounds of 5 pull-ups, 10 push-ups, and 15 walking lunges (per leg) with some days being a bit more, all in addition to being on my feet the majority of the day and climbing tons of stairs.

On a less positive note, my job does unfortunately lead to expectedly unexpected situations like this so I have to be flexible, adapt, find ways to do what I can, and be willing to pick up where I left off when I am back home. Not ideal; but, as someone who does not train or compete for a living and does this for personal reasons, I don't think it makes a huge difference in the end, especially as I am normally doing at least something while traveling.

Part of me wants to look into a membership to some kind of chain or franchise that tends to have C2's in their facilities that are located across the US like Anytime Fitness so I can be more consistent with the erg and barbell work. Another part of me wants to try to get back into running a bit more as it's much more accessible and convenient; however, taking the running mileage up pretty high is what ultimately got me into the erg in the first place as I was getting a bit beat up from the volume.

Today some on water meters in the dragonboat for technique training with the team. Ca. 6km reported by the watch.
Felt some muscles, which were not recovered from training yesterday, but overall nice session.
Tomorrow gym again, then I must find a day to go for the CTC 6k until end of the month. Probably Friday.
Team challenge rate restricted 6x500 is open, too. No idea when...perhaps in a gym session warmup?

First erg session in 12ish days. 2.5k warm up, 2 x 5k @ HM-ish effort, 2.5k cool down. HR a touch higher than I would have liked; I've been training, just not on the erg, and it's getting hot here (upper 90's) so the garage was warm. Felt pretty good to get some quality meters in but I could tell I haven't been on the erg the last few weeks consistently as fatigue definitely set in. The rest of the day will be general chores and house work and some quality time with the kids.

Have you considered strides or hill repeats as a less impactful introduction back in to running? Going out for 30 mins straight these days leaves me feeling a little beat up, but I can run a few hill reps or stride outs (not sprints) and feel okay. And apologies if I'm stating the obvious, but steering clear of tarmac, if it's a convenient option, will help too.

Huge fan of hills, hill sprinting, etc. Where I live, it is mostly paved surfaces but I can get out to the mountains and run trails in a relatively short drive (15 mins or so) which I should have considered more seriously but admittedly have not. It is relatively hilly where I am as well; I can find plenty of places to run upwards of a mile or so at a pretty consistent 3-5% grade but it would be on a paved surface.

LMK if you want to pillage a monastery; I am still working on my rowing, but I am skilled with battle axe and crossbow.

lift 30 min. I got sick of front squats EOD so I will just do back squats every day
6k UT2
5.7k UT1
4.5k AT
1300m TR
5.9k UT2

distances were irregular bc I was trying to precisely meet my goals for the week: 96 km UT2, 48 km UT1, 24 km AT, 12 km TR/AN (180 km total)

Sundays are my favorite garage rowing day as my wife and son smoke meat while I row, today they made 2 racks of spare ribs!
