Albatross One flapping resolutely on, but they should be entirely catchable with some serious effort.

Team One - Endurance have further increased their rate of striking and reduced Albatross One's lead to only 263km yesterday.

Row Sentinel Challenge - Day 80/81

RowAlong #2 have yet to cross the Finish Line and safely make it into St Mary's Harbour, Isles of Scilly.

So, with a superhuman effort today, either (or both) of Albatross One and RES Endurance could cross the Finish Line at the same time.

A total of > 5,741,200m is required by the end of the USA West Coast's evening (23:59) to be fair to teams from all world time zones

RES Endurance have finally got their bows in front of Albatross One after weeks of dogged pursuit

Closely followed by RowAlong #3 , Forum Flyers II 🏛, US Navy II ⛴ and RowAlong #1 , who are all within 125KM of each other.

Ian Rivers himself has now crossed the Continental Shelf and is less than 130NN / 240KM from home

Once he has finished, all the crews still remaining on the water will be rescued by helicopter and transported to The Mermaid Inn / The Atlantic Inn on the waterfront of St Mary's Harbour

When it will definitely be time for beer and more besides

RSC Day 81/82

In a classic Photo Finish , RES Endurance , sprinting and dipping for the tape, just edged out RowAlong #2 .

Like a camel sniffing water at the end of a long desert journey and galloping🌪 for the oasis 🏝, they posted 511,204m - the majority of which was rowed yesterday.

Albatross One , RowAlong #3 , Forum Flyers II 🏛, RowAlong #1 and US Navy II ⛴ are also close to finishing and could make it home in front of Ian Rivers with a decent push.

Meanwhile Ian himself now has less than 100NM / 185KM remaining

Row Sentinel Challenge 2021

A huge thank you to all of the international rowing community and the 50 teams that have taken part in this virtual adventure. The friendliness and enthusiasm that so many people have shown throughout has been extraordinary.

Ian Rivers crossed the Finish Line on St. Mary's, Isles of Scilly, at just before 18:00 on Monday 23rd August, having rowed the 3,100NM (and an extra 386NM in detours) from New York in a time of 83 Days, 23 hours (pending official confirmation).

A Guinness World Record (to be confirmed) and the World's first successful solo, unsupported rowing of the North Atlantic Ocean from West to East

A few statistics ...

> It has taken Ian Rivers and us 81-84 days to achieve the 3,100NM / 5,741KM from New York to the Isles of Scilly (average of 70,000m per day)

> 11 of the teams managed to average their expected 60,000m per day (4,980,000m)

> A further 22 managed to average more than 50,000m per day (4,150,000m)

> The 50 teams comprised 1,050 members (21 per team) who averaged 212,000m each

> Collectively, we have RowErg, BikeErg (metres halved), SkiErg or On-Water rowed almost 223 million metres during the challenge.

All in all, a happy way to trundle through the Dog Days of summer.

By popular request, we will now re-balance the 50 teams - to be as even as possible - and continue to produce a monthly progress tracker

We may reconvene to attempt the GB Row Challenge next June - a mere sprint by comparison at only 1,774NM / 3,286KM.

Or journey across the Mediterranean Sea, as part of the Race to Dubai Challenge (part of Dubai International Regatta).
