Looking to buy used Concept2 DYNO

Post by JRBJR » June 29th, 2007, 6:58 pm

I've been researching and planning to buy a new DYNO for the last month or so. However, I called C2 in Vermont this morning and learned that they stopped manufacturing and selling the DYNO about two months ago, so looks like I'll have to buy a used one from a private party.

If you live in the SF bay area region and are interested in selling a good condition DYNO for a very good price, please send me a private message on this board.

Thanks,
John

An update to my original post:

To increase my odds of finding one, I'd be willing to consider purchasing a Dyno from practically anywhere iin the state of California and even southern Oregon. If necessary, I can arrange for the pickup and delivery of the unit through a private shipper.

john - i've asked around inside c2 for other ideas - i'll post here if i manage to find you one.

in the meantime i'm interested in knowing what feature/aspect of the DYNO you find appealing - and what you will be using it for. If you have a moment please email me at billp@concept2.com

thanks

No, put them right here, I'm sure a lot of us are interested.

I've always though the Dyno was a decent bit of kit, but far to expensive/heavy/space consuming/limited to warrant a place in my own workout room.

I am truly sorry C2 is abandoning the DYNO. In truth, I've never understood why the UK C2 website embraced the machine so (the UK police even use it for their applicant screening process) while here there seemed to be little support for it. I own one and have always been pleased with it. The three core multi-muscle strength excercises can all be done in a minimum of time with a minimum of fuss. It was my intent to use it for rowing specific strength training instead of the weight machines I'd used at the gym. Inadvertantly, I gained about five pounds while my body fat percentage remained virtually the same. As a relatively older (59) excerciser, I found the combination of C2 rower (my third over 20 years) and DYNO to be the most time efficient and effective combination I've ever used (a 45 year athletic career has resulted in a multitude of injuries).
One thing I've learned in a career in management is the value of consulting stakeholders/customers. I never perceived any real support for the machine at C2 and that's unfortunate. I've tried other machines and none match the DYNO's potential for injury free, time efficient, sport specific strength training. The other strength machines seem to be for body builders. DYNO was for athletes. RIP. Will C2 ever risk going outside their comfort zone again?

Update: After considerable research and hands-on experimenting, I've decided to go with the Hoist V4 single-stack home gym instead of a C2 Dyno. I wasn't aware that rugged home gyms had gotten so compact and versatile in the past few years. Even though space is a premium in our home exercise room, the V4 has such a small hardware footprint (3' wide x 5' long x 7' tall) that it will fit fine and still provide the necessary additional walk-around access space. And with its lat bar, chest bar, leg extension, and end pull-out bar, it provides dozens of workout positions. And all for not much more than a new Dyno (if there was still such a thing).

As my wife put it, why invest in something that provides three core exercises when, for a few hundred more, you can buy another high-quality, properly-serviced piece of equipment that offers so much more? I imagine that, even in boathouses and crew exercise rooms with a Dyno, the users gravitated towards the free weights and multi-stattion gym equipment most of the time.

I have had the Dyno in my garage for 5 years now. All family members enjoy it... 3 children and 6 grandchildren. I use the erg as well and have competed on short distances like 100, 300 and 500m. I am 61 year lwt. My strength training I have done mainly with DYNO. The "Dyno story" has been a mystery to me. Low profile marketing. I would be very keen on knowing what "went wrong". A potentially splendid product but no remarkable sales in any market. Why?
